A statement that almost every Indian Life Science student has heard at least once. Ironically, we are surrounded by people who believe in this scenario, ultimately conditioning the mind and inculcating limiting belief in others that there are fewer or no opportunities at all in this field! This leaves you with the fear of not knowing what’s next or what all can you do with the degree in your hand. As a result, you feel lost, nervous and blame it on your choices! Only because you do not know what options and opportunities are out there for Life sciences students. But that’s a myth!
Sadly, most of us have felt the same way due to lack of exposure to changing landscape of opportunities in this domain. Only if someone was there who could show you the right path to explore all these opportunities would life be so much better. The result of this limiting belief restricts the individual’s professional growth. Even the life sciences companies/organisations find it arduous to hire adequately skilled individuals. The result is a hidden loop where a company does not hire because you did not have the right skills, and you end up thinking and telling everybody that there are very few opportunities for life sciences. You are not adequately skilled because you never knew such opportunities existed and what you needed to do to get that job! Also, you probably did not apply to other organisations because you got zero responses in return every time you uploaded your CV or resume on the internet. Now, who is to blame here!
The truth is there are several opportunities for life sciences students out there. There are ways to upskill yourself to be capable of such positions. There are ways to locate such jobs in academia and industry. And at the same time, there are ways to do things in a certain manner to get the results!
